GLOBAL – The Food Safety System Certification Foundation (FSSC) has welcomed Bert Debets as the new Independent Chair of its Board of Stakeholders.
Bert served on the Board of Stakeholders from 2018 until 2021, representing Unilever. During that time, he got to know the Foundation well and contributed significantly to achieving its objectives, says FSSC. Hence the Foundation reached out to him again while searching for a new Chair.
With over thirty years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Bert has held several senior positions in quality management within Unilever and served as the Quality Director Foods & Refreshment Division.
He now makes his long-time experience and knowledge in quality and food safety management available to the food industry through supporting the Foundation.
“In my role of independent Chair of the Board of Stakeholders, I will support the Foundation in its ambition to grow and become the most recognized Food Safety and Quality certification scheme in the world,” said Bert.
Through active engagement and co-creation, added Bret, Board of Stakeholder members will help the Foundation to explore opportunities for adding new scopes to continue delivering trust and impact to the consumer goods industry.
“This includes the support of small and medium-sized organizations around the world to help strengthen and continually improve their management systems,” he said.
As defined in its bylaws, an independent Board of Stakeholders governs the Foundation. Within the Board, the interests of all parties involved in the food supply chain are represented.
The Board of Stakeholders decides upon changes in the Scheme and its Integrity Program, after which they are published in the Scheme Board of Stakeholders decision list.
Revisions of all relevant Scheme documents are published on the FSSC website and communicated with all involved Certification and Accreditation Bodies.
The current members of the FSSC Board of Stakeholders include Albert Heijn (Ahold Delhaize), The Coca-Cola Company, Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU, Food Industry Asia, the Independent Association of Accredited Registrars (IAAR), Independent International Organization for Certification (IIOC), IQnet, Mars Inc., Metro AG, Safe Supply of Affordable Food Everywhere (SSAFE), Serving Europe and Unilever.
