U.S – ADM, a leader in global nutrition, has doubled its present microbiology footprint with the opening of a new North American microbiology laboratory at the ADM specialty manufacturing site in Decatur, Illinois.
According to the company, the new facility “significantly expands its testing capacity, as well as its footprint in the Decatur region.”
“This new facility will drive productivity and collaboration, accelerate innovation and bring even more high-level science and research employment opportunities to Decatur,” said Veronica Braker, Senior Vice President of Global Operations at ADM.
The laboratory was first established in the late 1960s and has since undergone five expansions, the most recent of which was in 2006.
Across North America, more than 26 ADM manufacturing locations will receive testing services from the new facility.
According to ADM, it has technology that enables access to the newest laboratory and testing advancements as well as the capacity to process a vastly increased number of tests.
The new lab will also enable the business to carry out sophisticated testing internally, including kill-step validations for processing plants and automation systems.
ADM added that the laboratory would continue to grow its accreditation for other methods and will become ISO 17025 accredited for the top five quality testing procedures in early 2023.
In order to enable quicker reporting to ADM clients, a laboratory information management system will also be put into place at the new location in late 2023.
“We are very excited for this expansion because it enables greater innovation to unlock the power of nature in order to enrich the quality of life.
“The development of this state-of-the-art laboratory directly aligns with our mission and vision to strive for operational excellence, partner with operations to provide testing solutions and drive analytical performance,” said Lee Perry, Vice President, Quality and Food Safety at ADM.
Formally known as Archer-Daniels-Midland Company, ADM recently marked its 120th birthday since its incorporation in 1902, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as a regional linseed oil business.
Today, ADM – with 41,000 employees serving customers in nearly 200 countries – is an indispensable global agricultural supply chain manager and processor, a premier human and animal nutrition company, a trailblazer in groundbreaking solutions to support healthier living, a cutting-edge innovator in replacing petroleum-based products, and a leader in sustainability.
