UAE – Marks and Spencer has accredited the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) of the Dubai Municipality to act as a reference lab for tests linked to determining the authenticity of food products in the Emirate.

The action demonstrates the Municipality’s dedication to using cutting-edge technologies to provide the highest standards of security, safety, and health. This also strives to raise the standard of living for locals and visitors while enhancing Dubai’s reputation as one of the best places to live.

This accreditation is a noteworthy accomplishment that strengthens DCL’s position as a top-tier laboratory for conducting lab tests and ensuring exceptional safety and health standards for communities.

The lab is outfitted with the newest technologies to conduct studies in determining the validity of food products effectively and efficiently in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017, which outlines the general requirements for the competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of laboratories.

The evaluation studies of food product validity are regarded as being of utmost importance since they significantly increase customer trust in Dubai’s food safety ecosystem.

These assessments entail performing a number of physical, microbiological, and chemical tests to establish a product’s shelf life while maintaining its crucial attributes, such as flavor, color, and texture, and to confirm its acceptability for human consumption.

The recognition will further aid the Municipality’s efforts in maintaining the emirate’s food products’ safety and quality, as well as ensuring flexible supply chains and sustainable food systems.

By promoting food and nutritional security, these initiatives will increase prosperity and improve quality of life.

The accomplishment underlines the DCL’s dedication to working with the private sector to find fresh business opportunities and address crucial environmental issues in the emirate. This will surely increase local and international organizations’ faith in our lab, establishing it as a trustworthy and valuable partner.

In order to keep abreast with the most recent scientific developments in the field of testing and analysis, notably the evaluation of food products, Dubai Municipality intends to broaden its services through DCL.

By ensuring that the food products are free of any contaminants or substances that are outside of set standards and legal requirements, the Municipality hopes to improve food security in the Emirate.

Since its establishment in 1997, the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) Department has evolved and brought together all of Dubai Municipality’s laboratories.

It gained its first accreditation in 2006 from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for a 3-year period.

The lab is certified according to the International Standard ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety, since 2020, and accredited by the Emirates International Accreditation Center (EIAC) according to the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025 of 2005 for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations.

It is also accredited for granting conformity marks/certificates since 2008 according to the International Standard ISO/IEC 65 of 1996, enabling it to provide integrated services at local, regional, and global levels, including 37 countries.
