U.S –  Hygiena, a food safety solutions provider, has launched a new  Allergen App which it has integrated into its EnSURE Touch system, an advanced cleaning verification and monitoring system.

Integration with the handheld EnSURE Touch luminometer allows the consolidation of allergen test results into overarching environmental test protocols and reporting for more insight into production safety.

Moreover, Hygiena’s SureTrend Cloud data management system, complimentary for all EnSURE Touch users, allows for customized report consolidation, trend analysis, proactive process correction, and robust audit preparation.

“We are very pleased to continually innovate and refine our environmental monitoring tools toward more holistic HACCP monitoring and increased public health safety.

“We believe the ability to quickly and easily align allergen test results with our broader environmental testing solutions including ATP and indicator organism detection allows our customers deeper insight into specific process control efforts,” said Steven Nason, CEO of Hygiena.

Food allergies are recognized as a growing problem in most countries, affecting approximately 2.5% of the general population worldwide, with reported prevalence rates ranging from 1% to 10%.

Symptoms associated with an allergic response range from a mild or moderate category up to and including anaphylactic reactions, which can be life-threatening.

It is therefore imperative for food operators to accurately identify undisclosed allergens and inadvertent allergen cross-contamination as a component of their food safety plan, Hygiena said.

“By embracing digital connectivity and continuing to add more food safety data points to our SureTrend Cloud solution, we are advancing food safety. The EnSURE Touch Allergen App empowers and informs customers in real time about the health of their food safety program,” said Nason.

Although allergen testing has long been incorporated into standard operating procedures, the test results were traditionally reported in isolation, rather than as a component of a holistic cleaning verification and quality release process.

As such, operators have been unable to simply incorporate allergen detection into the larger environmental monitoring database. Hygiena said that this has hindered the ability to monitor process and cleaning control efficacy, a bottleneck EnSURE Touch Allergen App aims to resolve.

In the new era of digital transformation, food manufacturers are increasingly taking advantage of technology to enhance food safety, reports Quality Assurance and Food Safety.

Through the modernization and automation of food safety data collection and entry processes, operators are overcoming food traceability obstacles, which is resulting in a more transparent supply chain.

“The software does all the thinking and identification of issues before they become serious. This is the true power of our technology — the speed and accuracy with which it alerts people instantaneously rather than days or weeks later when the issue has already long surfaced,” the CEO stated.
