GLOBAL – The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), a prominent Coalition of Action led by The Consumer Goods Forum has announced the induction of three industry experts to its Steering Committee.

These experts, hailing from major food and drink manufacturers, are set to shape the future of food safety standards, foster collaboration, and uphold the Coalition’s mission of delivering safe food to people worldwide.

They include Mark Beaumont, Vice President, Quality and Food Safety Standards and Risk Management, Danone; Mahirwan Bhagia, Chief Food Safety & Quality Assurance Officer, PepsiCo; Olivier Mignot, Vice President, Global Quality Management, Nestlé.

Mark Beaumont expressed the paramount importance of food safety, emphasizing the Committee’s role in driving change and innovation essential for securing food supplies and ensuring people’s safety globally.

Mahirwan Bhagia highlighted the uniqueness of the GFSI Steering Committee in forging impactful food safety programs through collaboration. He sees this opportunity as a catalyst for driving change and advocating for globally harmonized food safety standards.

Meanwhile, Olivier Mignot voiced his enthusiasm about joining a group of passionate industry leaders dedicated to prioritizing food safety and continuous global improvement.

The Steering Committee members commit to supporting GFSI’s three strategic priorities: harmonizing and benchmarking food safety certification programs, enhancing food safety capability, and fostering public-private partnerships.

These commitments reflect the Coalition’s dedication to advancing food safety systems worldwide.

GFSI, with 44 retailers and manufacturers, serves as a robust network addressing challenges within food safety systems.

Committed to making food safety a collective responsibility, GFSI aims to raise the food safety bar globally, ensuring safe food access to consumers regardless of their location.

The newly inducted members bring invaluable knowledge and experience from some of the world’s largest food and drink manufacturers, reinforcing GFSI’s commitment to progress and transformational improvements in global food safety systems.

In 2021, the GFSI added 6 industry experts to its Steering Committee namely Hugo Byrnes, Vice President Product Integrity, Ahold Delhaize; Mark Fryling, Vice President Global Food Safety and Quality, General Mills; Sara Mortimore, Vice President, Global Food Safety, Walmart and Carletta Ooton, Vice President – Product Assurance, Risk and Security, Amazon.

Others include Natalia Somer, Director of Department of Quality Management System, Magnit and Nelum Vithana, Manager Corporate – Product Research & Development, Cargills.
