KENYA – Kenchic, a leading poultry producer in East and Central Africa, has announced the attainment of the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000 2018 V 5.1- 2022) for its advanced processing plant situated in Thika.
This certification underscores Kenchic’s unwavering commitment to delivering top-quality poultry products to its customers.
Jim Tozer, Managing Director at Kenchic Ltd, expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing the company’s longstanding dedication to food safety standards.
“This certification reaffirms our dedication to ensuring that our customers receive the highest quality poultry products.
“We have been a trailblazer in setting food safety standards since 2011 when we got our first FSSC 22000 certification, and this recognition is a testament to our ongoing commitment to uncompromising quality, ” he said.
The certification was granted after a rigorous and comprehensive audit process, evaluating various facets of Kenchic’s operations, reports Kilimo News.
This thorough assessment included processes such as chicken slaughtering, processing of raw fresh and frozen poultry products, production of raw further processed items, and ready-to-eat products.
Kenchic’s processing structures and production floors were found to be impeccable during the audit, showcasing commendable Good Manufacturing Practices.
The primary objectives of the audit were to assess Kenchic’s management system’s conformity with the audit criteria and the company’s ability to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
The evaluation also aimed to measure the effectiveness of Kenchic’s systems in achieving objectives and pinpoint areas for improvement.
Mr. Tozer reiterated Kenchic’s belief that ensuring food safety is not just a responsibility but a commitment to making a positive impact on customers’ lives.
“We have always believed that ensuring food safety is not just a responsibility but a commitment to making a positive impact on our customers’ lives. By achieving this certification, we continue to uphold our promise of providing safe, sustainable, and environmentally friendly food production,” he said.
The poultry processor attained its first FSSC 22000 certification in 2011 and has since been renewing it after undergoing a series of stringent food safety tests and audits, a testament to its implementation of the most robust food safety management system in its operations.
Since its inception, the company’s main activity has been the production of broiler, Kenbro and layer day old chicks. Over the years it has expanded its operations to include processed chicken and other products such as smoked, choma and chicken sausages sold under the Kenchic brand.
The poultry firm avails its products via leading retailers and also serves international franchises like Steers, Galitos, and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), who order whole chicken, thighs, drumsticks and wings, alongside leading hotels and fast-food restaurants across the country.
