SWITZERLAND – Markem-Imaje, a product identification & traceability solutions provider, has received the BRC Global Standard (BRCGS) certification for Packaging Materials, a globally recognized benchmark that validates that products are safe, legally compliant, and high quality.
The company received the certification at its Bourg-Lès-Valence, France, manufacturing facility for Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) inks following a thorough evaluation by a third-party certification organization.
The certification attests to the fact that Markem-CIJ Imaje’s inks and additives adhere to the best production practices around the world.
“The BRC standard is one of the most ambitious certifications applicable to the production process for marking and coding inks. We are very proud of this recognition and the hard work and commitment of our team.
“We ultimately expect to achieve this certification at all of our ink manufacturing sites,” said Mark Rapposelli, Vice President of Product Development and Engineering at Markem-Imaje.
The accreditation, which is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), assists Markem-Imaje’s food-producing clients globally in safely establishing consumer and partner trust along the whole supply chain.
With consumers paying more attention to food fraud, hygiene, product safety, and supply chain transparency, the company’s Grade A accreditation shows a dedication to food safety and compliance with marking and coding inks above and beyond the company’s competitors.
The BRCGS offers a strong framework for quality management that takes into account both hazard and risk assessment analyses and ensured hygiene standards.
“During the last year consumer behaviors have been shifting significantly, especially those related to food safety. Food fraud, hygiene, product safety, and improved supply chain transparency and coherence have rightly emerged as important points of concern.
“It is becoming more important than ever for MI to follow BRCGS standard rules. Equally important, we need to communicate effectively that we comply with these rules,” Rapposelli said.
The certification covers primary and secondary packaging for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and other markets as well as inks and additives for inkjet printers for coding and marking with direct or indirect food contact.
