U.S – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has been granted accreditation by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to provide third-party certification of NSF/ANSI standards for food service and commercial appliance equipment products.

The accreditation was awarded by ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), in North America, to SGS’s head certification office in Suwanee Georgia, USA. It gives the green light for the company to deliver food sanitation testing and certification services for the first time.

The award is a welcome expansion of the company’s electrical and electronic (E&E) portfolio to support the commercial food industry in delivering high quality, safe and compliant products to North American markets.

Food service equipment in the United States is required to be compliant with national sanitation requirements (NSF). Now, as an ANSI-accredited certification body, SGS can certify food equipment as specified in the FDA Food Code in accordance with 12 NSF/ANSI standards.

NSF standards and protocols can provide credibility and industry acceptance for emerging technologies, and certification from NSF, the most trusted name in food equipment, can give standing to new products and help them succeed.

NSF food equipment standards include requirements for material safety, design, construction and product performance.

The company will undertake all testing from its laboratories in Guangzhou and Shanghai, China.

By expanding its services into food sanitation, it is well placed to provide a one stop shop to commercial electrical food equipment manufacturers and retailers, ensuring it is best placed to meet all regulatory requirements for food safety, electrical safety, energy efficiency and sustainability.

“We are delighted to receive this accreditation which we know will be welcomed by manufacturers and retailers around the world looking to demonstrate that their products are safe to use in restaurant and commercial kitchen settings, and comply with US food safety regulations,” said John Ciliege, Global Head of Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) .

He pinpointed that SGS is recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity, and this accreditation ensures the company is even better placed to help those organizations within the commercial food and equipment sector trade with confidence in the global marketplace.

The company recently launched the Advanced Centre of Testing (ACT)  at its laboratory premises at Ambattur, Chennai -expanding its food testing capabilities to encompass targeted and non-targeted detection of various contaminants, digital sensory analysis, and DNA-based molecular solutions.

NSF has facilitated the development of more than 75 standards and protocols for sanitary food equipment, and has certified thousands of products as safe to use in restaurant and commercial kitchen settings.
