TANZANIA – The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has rolled out a training for trade and health officers from Mwanza Region’s local councils in regard to laws, regulations and guidelines for the implementation of the collaboration between TBS and the office of the President –Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG).
All local council members in the Mwanza Region are needed to comprehend the government’s objective to ensure that the nation has a vast network for the regulation of food quality and safety.
The training organized by TBS is the initial one, targeting officials from the offices of the regional commissioners, local councils including health and trade officers.
As he flagged off the training, Acting Mwanza Regional Administrative Secretary, Daniel Machunda, called upon seminar participants to understand that mentioned laws, regulations and guidelines have been endorsed by PO-RALG and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade.
“I believe that this seminar is the right way to bring more benefits in the control of food in our region and the nation in general as well as in making sure the people are promptly served when in need,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lazaro Msasaalaga, TBS Director of Quality Control, stated that the training aims to strengthen personnel in carrying out their tasks while speaking on behalf of TBS Director General.
Similar training sessions, he said, have been held in Mtwara, Tanga, Coast, and Kigoma, among other regions, and it is anticipated that they would be held in all of the nation’s regions.
He claimed that TBS has been conducting quality control inspections in partnership with local council authorities and that this has led him to believe that the training will improve employee performance in terms of safeguarding the nation’s food and cosmetics industry’s quality and safety.
In other news, TBS has received a pat on the back for organizing training to equip the staff working in the quality and investigation laboratories with the science of measurement needed to perform day-to-day duties more effectively.
“The training is offering you important skills to enhance efficiency in the laboratory dealing with quality and investigation to make sure that they provide correct results.
“The training for the laboratory experts will be an incentive and catalyst to enhancing efficiency in the laboratories, to dealing with quality and investigation measurements to provide correct tests,” Nyamagana District Commissioner, Ms. Amina Makilagi, said.
Speaking on behalf of the Mwanza Regional Commissioner Adam Malima, she stated that Mwanza is a critical region with current initiatives, such as those in the health and construction sectors, and that as a result, the specialists will be able to deliver accurate laboratory tests following the training.
On his part, the TBS Director General, Athuman Ngenya stated that by providing laboratory professionals with training, their ability to handle metrology measures and assess the quality of goods will be improved.
